
GURUGRAM: Om Prakash Chautala, the former Chief Minister of Haryana and leader of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), passed away in Gurugram on Friday, December 20, at the age of 89. A party spokesperson informed the media that Om Prakash Chautala died due to a cardiac arrest.
The last public appearance of Om Prakash Chautala occurred on October 5th, this year, during the Haryana Assembly election voting. He was spotted at a polling station in Chautala village, Sirsa.
In addition to being the seventh Chief Minister of Haryana, Om Prakash Chautala was also the son of Chaudhary Devi Lal, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India.
Notably, in a case involving 16 years old disproportionate assets, Chautala was sentenced to four years in prison on May 27, 2022, by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court. At the age of 87, he became the oldest inmate in Delhi's Tihar Prison.
In August 2019, Sneh Lata, the wife of Om Prakash Chautala, passed away. Abhay Singh Chautala and Ajay Singh Chautala are two of Chautala's five children which also includes three daughters.
From October 2014 to March 2019, Abhay Singh Chautala, an MLA from the Ellenabad constituency of Haryana, served as the Haryana Legislative Assembly's Leader of the Opposition.
Dushyant Chautala, the grandson of Om Prakash Chautala, is the leader of the Jannayak Janata Party and was Haryana's deputy chief minister. Additionally, he formerly served as a Member of Parliament for the Hisar seat in the Lok Sabha.
