Forward Posts of Pakistan Destroyed by Indian Army

Guwahati: The Indian Army destroyed five forward posts of Pakistan in a befitting retaliation to firing from across the border in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday night.

A Defence Spokesperson said that the Pakistani troops resorted to indiscriminate firing and shelling with heavy calibre weapons in 12 to 15 places in the twin border districts. "The Pakistan troops were also seen firing mortars and missiles from civilian house using villagers as human shields. The Indian troops retaliated strongly and caused a number of casualties to the Pakistan Army," the Spokesperson said.

A defence PRO said that the Indian Army retaliated for effect and the focused fire resulted in severe destruction to five posts along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts.

The Pakistani Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling from 6.30pm onwards along the LoC out of frustration.

However, in the exchange of fire five Indian soldiers of the Indian Army suffered minor injuries and two of them were shifted to a military hospital for medical treatment. It has been reported that the soldiers are stable.

The sectors targeted include Krishna Gati, Balakot, Khari Karmara, Mankote, Tarkundi in Poonch district and Kalal, Baba Khori, Kalsian, Laam and Jhangar in Rajouri district and other two targeted areas are Pallanwala and Laleali in Jammu.

It has been reported that Pakistan had shelled forward posts in Poonch district, Mendhar and Nowshera sectors early in the day too prompting a firm response from the Indian forces.

Meanwhile, government officials informed that due to the tensed situation in Rajouri district, schools within 5 km of the Line of Control will be closed and exams will be postponed.

Last year, it has seen the highest number of ceasefire violations nearly 3000 by the Pakistani troops in the last 15 years along the India-Pakistan border.

Pakistan, however, continues to violate the ceasefire understanding of 2003 despite repeated calls for restraint and adherence to the agreement during flag meetings between the border guarding forces of the two countries.

The people under the LoC and the international border of the region leaves in constant fear amid the rising tension between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack and increasing ceasefire violations.
