NEW DELHI: On Monday, India's first Transgender Constable, Rachit Raj dies in an attempt to cross the railway track in Bihar.

Eye witness of the incident clarifies that the deceased were trying to cross the track at around 9:30 AM when a super-fast train hit two people and was killed on spot.

Rachit Raj first came into light back in 2016 after the massive backlash he faced for his non identified gender issue. Rachit claimed that despite being a female he was attracted towards girls than boys when he was 17 years old. He faced several hurdles to establish his true identity. Later he was given an affidavit in the court to become a transgender. He registered under the transgender protection act 2019.

He was the first transgender constable to be deported in SP office in Kashmir district, a confidential branch. He was earlier known as Rachana and later after identifying himself as transgender he named himself Rachit Raj.

Mr. Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, proposed the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha on July 19, 2019. A transgender person is one whose gender does not match the gender assigned at birth, according to the bill. Transmen and transwomen, those with intersex variants, gender-queers, and people with socio-cultural identities like kinnar and hijra are also included. Intersex variants are described as a person who differs from the normative standard of male or female body in primary sexual traits, external genitalia, chromosomes, or hormones at birth.

In an earlier case, Assam appointed its first Transgender judge on 14th July 2018, third in the country. Swati Bidhan Baruah hails from Guwahati. Joyita Mondal of West Bengal is India's first transgender judge. The next transgender to be appointed as a judge was Vidya Kamble of Maharashtra.
