MADRAS: India has achieved a remarkable milestone in transport innovation with the completion of its first 410-meter Hyperloop test track. This groundbreaking project is a collaboration between Indian Railways, IIT Madras, and TuTr, a startup incubated at the institution.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the achievement on Thursday, sharing a video of the test track on X (formerly Twitter). “Bharat’s first Hyperloop test track (410 meters) completed. Team Railways, IIT Madras’ Avishkar Hyperloop team, and TuTr (an incubated startup),” he wrote.
The concept of the Hyperloop, popularized by Elon Musk in 2012, has garnered global attention for its potential to transform transportation. The system uses pressurized pods that travel at ultra-high speeds through low-pressure tubes, offering a futuristic alternative to conventional travel.
The Avishkar Hyperloop team, consisting of 76 undergraduate and postgraduate students from IIT Madras, has played a pivotal role in this initiative. As per reports, the implementation of the Hyperloop system in India will proceed in two stages, showcasing the nation's growing capabilities in advanced transport technologies.
Each pod is designed to transport 24-28 passengers between locations without stopping at intermediate stations, offering an efficient solution for direct travel.
This development represents India’s commitment to advancing its transportation infrastructure, with the potential to revolutionize travel through enhanced speed and contemporary technology.
