Karnataka police department finds a unique way to put a check on illogical transfer applications
Guwahati: In an acute action taken by the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) on the matter of frequent transfer application stating illogical reasons by junior police personnel, it has now been announced that from now on if any application comes without citing valid reasons; such persons will be forced to take compulsory retirement.
It is seen that the junior police personnel working with the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) use to seek transfers to comparatively better locations citing health reasons. However, on being properly scrutinized, it could be seen that most of such applications contain illogical reasons ranging from back pain, diabetes, sinus, high blood pressure (BP) and others.
Such transfer requests are generally sent to units attached to Bengaluru’s Central Business District (CBD) and the head of the department is absolutely not happy with what the junior police personnel are up to. Hence, Bhaskar Rao, Additional Director General of Police (KSRP), issued a circular on November 19. The circular states that if any such applications without valid reasons are submitted from now on, the applicant would be forced to take voluntary retirement. This was enforceable under Rule 285 of the KSRP.
Rao stated, “Backaches are something that most of us suffer from. Also, diabetes cannot be a reason for seeking a transfer. Such transfer requests are considered only if the person is suffering from a serious health problem and after he can show how the new posting would help address his problem.”
He also added, “The reserve police force is a highly disciplined outfit, on a par with the Army. I cannot run it with sick people. We need to be fit and fine to defend the State, and candidates here are not recruited on compassionate grounds.”
As a majority of police constables approaches with such illogical applications seeking transfer to their home districts or other places that they find suitable, it had become a trend for them to apply for a posting on medical grounds.
But time has come that the police department must take an action as such behaviour of the staff leads to an acute shortage of manpower. Meanwhile, the Home Department has decided to use the KSRP to fill vacant posts at police stations on an ad hoc basis.
An official stated, “Some units of the KSRP personnel get postings at police stations that are lucrative. Such postings offer opportunities and benefits, and everyone wants a piece of the pie. This move will help us clamp down on corruption.”
