New Delhi: Kiren Rijiju, the Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister, slammed the Congress harshly on Saturday, saying the party was changing its basic principles and weakening the Constitution. He made these comments at a discussion in the Lok Sabha commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution's adoption.

Rijiju condemned the Congress for allegedly altering the preamble and core of the Constitution. "You have attacked the Constitution, you have changed the preamble. You have altered the very soul of the Constitution. Then how can you blame others?" he remarked.

In response to criticism over minority safety in the nation, the minister said that India has long served as a refuge for persecuted minorities from surrounding nations. "Look at Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Tibet, or Myanmar. Be it Sikhs, Hindus, or Christians, when minorities face oppression, they seek protection in India. So why question minority safety here?" he argued.

In addition, Rijiju questioned the Congress for not awarding the Bharat Ratna to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar while it was in power. "You frequently mention Baba Saheb, but you didn’t confer the Bharat Ratna on him. After 1956, Nehru Ji received the Bharat Ratna, and later, Indira Gandhi awarded it to herself. It was only under VP Singh’s government, supported by the BJP, that Baba Saheb was given this honor," he said.

Referring to Ambedkar's letter of resignation from the cabinet, Rijiju added that the "Father of Indian Constitution" intended to run again as an MP, but the Congress made sure he lost the election. He claimed that Ambedkar had written that Nehru, the Congress leader, had expressed sympathy for Muslims but never once mentioned the welfare of the Scheduled Castes. He questioned what kind of support the Dalits could anticipate from the Congress party.
