NEPAL: In a bid to strengthen the longstanding defense cooperation between India and Nepal, Lt. Gen. Zubin A. Minwalla, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 33 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment of the 9 Gorkha Rifles, recently paid a visit to Nepal.
The visit was meant to build better military relations and find new ways for the two countries to cooperate. Lt. Gen. Minwalla met with General Ashok Raj Sigdel, the Chief of Army Staff of Nepal, at the Nepalese Army Headquarters in Kathmandu. They talked about strengthening defense ties, working more closely together, and finding new areas for the Indian and Nepalese armies to collaborate.
Apart from meeting General Sigdel, Lt. Gen. Minwalla also had a detailed conversation with Major General Pawan Raj Ghimire, who leads the Nepalese Army’s Eastern Division. This gave them a chance to talk about regional security issues and find ways to improve coordination between the two armies.
Lt. Gen. Minwalla also visited the Defence Wing’s Welfare Branch and the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic in Kathmandu. During the visit, he met with Nepalese ex-servicemen who had served in the Indian Army and reaffirmed India’s steadfast commitment to supporting the welfare of its ex-servicemen in Nepal.
The visit highlighted the need to offer complete healthcare and support to veterans. India and Nepal have a strong history and cultural connection, with many Nepalese soldiers serving in the Indian Army over the years.
This strong military connection is a key part of the India-Nepal relationship. Lt. Gen. Minwalla’s visit helps strengthen this partnership, showing that both countries are committed to maintaining regional stability and security.
