Guwahati: The death of Sushant Singh Rajput, who rose to prominence by assaying the role of India's cricketing legend M S Dhoni, has reportedly left the former captain "shattered" and "morose", say reports.

Rajput, who spent 9 months to master the mannerisms of the swashbuckling wicketkeeping-batsman, was trained by the former Indian wicket-keeper Kiran More. To his credit, Rajput was able to sink his teeth into the role and even master Dhoni's trademark helicopter shot..

Neeraj Pandey, the director of the hit film, reportedly called up Dhoni on Sunday afternoon to convey the news of Sushant's death. "Apart from calling Mahi bhai (Dhoni), I have also called two of his best friends Mihir Diwakar and Arun Pandey. They all seemed very upset with such a piece of terrible news. Mahi bhai was in a shock to hear the news and got shattered", he is quoted as saying by xtratime.i.


Pandey told ABP Ananda Mahi isĀ also "very morose", adding, "Such a tragic incident. We can't even believe what has happened. I am not in a position to express my grief."

Shockingly, Sushant, who was at the peak of his powers in Bollywood, was found hanging in his Bandra residence on Sunday.

"He has committed suicide. Mumbai Police is investigating. The police have not found any (suicide) note yet," Mumbai Police Spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police Pranay Ashok said. Clad in a dark t-shirt and grey shorts, Rajput was found hanging by a bedsheet at his home. A domestic servant saw his body hanging and immediately informed the police. According to reports, police found some medical reports and antidepressants.

Rajput, 34, hailed from Bihar and was educated in Patna and New Delhi, before shifting to Mumbai. He was known for his portrayals in popular TV serials and films like "Pavitra Rishta", films "Kai Po Chhe", "Shuddh Desi Romance", the biopic "MS Dhoni: The Untold Story", "Kedarnath" and "Chhichore", among several others.
