
PRAYAGRAJ: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Uttar Pradesh Government is making comprehensive preparations to ensure that the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is a spectacular, secure, and spiritually fulfilling event. Set to attract over 40 crore devotees from around the world, this 45-day festival, scheduled to be held from January 13 to February 26, will celebrate India’s vibrant cultural heritage and spiritual legacy.
The Mahakumbh 2025 will begin on January 13 and conclude on February 26, with an anticipated turnout of over 40 crore visitors. In preparation for this monumental event, significant infrastructural enhancements have been made and measures have been taken.
1. Key Infrastructure Development
Temporary City Setup: Mahakumbh Nagar being transformed with tents and IRCTC's "Mahakumbh Gram" luxury tents.
Roads and Bridges: 92 roads renovated, 17 beautified, and 30 pontoon bridges under construction.
Signage for Navigation: 800 multilingual signages being installed, over 400 completed.
Public Utilities: 2,69,000 checkered plates laid; mobile toilets and waste management systems implemented.
2. Security Arrangements
Advanced Surveillance: AI crowd monitoring, CCTV cameras, drones, facial recognition.
Fire Safety: Four AWTs, Rs. 131 crore allocated, video and thermal imaging.
Underwater Drones: 24/7 surveillance, diving up to 100 meters.
Cyber-security: 56 cyber warriors, cyber help desks in police stations.
Disaster Response: Multi-Disaster Response vehicle, lifting bags, heavy object rescue.
3. Health Services
Medical Infrastructure: Temporary hospitals with surgical and diagnostic facilities; deployment of "Bhishma Cube" for treating 200 people simultaneously.
Eye Care Initiative: "Netra Kumbh" camp for eye tests and 3 lakh eyeglasses; aiming for a Guinness World Record.
Eye Donation Camp: Over 11,000 donations in 2019; encouraging donations to reduce blindness in 1.5 crore visually impaired individuals.
Special Care for Vulnerable Groups: Health camps for elderly and children, focusing on mobility, hydration, and emergency care.
4. Environmental Sustainability
River Protection: Installation of 3 temporary sewage treatment plants (STPs) for clean Ganga and Yamuna water.
Eco-Friendly Measures: Solar power for lighting, promotion of reusable materials, and ban on single-use plastics.
5. Digital Innovations
Mobile App & Online Services: Dedicated app for real-time updates, emergency alerts, directions, and accommodation; online registration and ticketing for visitor management.
Wi-Fi Zones: Temporary Wi-Fi zones for visitor connectivity.
Google Maps Integration: Navigation within Mahakumbh Nagar via Google Maps.
6. Tourism and Cultural Promotion
Uttar Pradesh Pavilion: 5-acre space near Nagavasuki Temple showcasing UP’s tourism circuits and a handicrafts market with cultural programs.
Cultural Events: Classical music, dance performances, and exhibitions on India’s spiritual heritage.
New Corridors & Temple Renovation: Development of Akshayavat, Saraswati Koop, and Patalpuri Corridors; renovation of Nagvasuki and Hanuman Temple Corridors.
7. Economic Impact
The Maha Kumbh is driving local trade, with a 25% increase in sales of Mahakumbh-themed products such as diaries, calendars, jute bags, and stationery, thanks to strategic branding.
8. Global Outreach
Special provisions for international visitors include multilingual signages and cultural programs highlighting India’s diversity. Mahakumbh 2025 aims to be a global celebration of spirituality, culture, safety, sustainability, and modernity, beyond just a religious gathering.
