PRAYAGRAJ: The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, the largest spiritual gathering in the world, is set to conclude on February 26, a day when the important festival of Maha Shivratri will also be celebrated. Early in the morning, thousands of devotees rushed to the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj to take part in the last sacred 'snan' (holy dip).

Maha Shivratri is also the festival of union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and assumes a special importance during Kumbh Mela, symbolizing the mythological churning of the sea that gives Amrit Kumbh, or the pitcher of nectar. The six-week-long Mela began on January 13 and comprised of six holy bathing days with three 'Amrit Snan' days.

To manage the large number of visitors, the Kumbh Mela area is made a 'no vehicle zone.' DIG (Kumbh) Vaibhav Krishna stated that no VIP treatment is given on this day. The Uttar Pradesh government advises devotees to use the nearest ghats for their dips to avoid overcrowding.

Safety is a top priority, with 37,000 police personnel and 14,000 home guards being deployed to provide security. The authorities are expecting over 1.33 crore individuals to visit. More than 2,750 CCTV cameras and various control rooms have been installed to keep the place under surveillance.

The Indian Railways have arranged for more than 350 extra trains to help devotees return home. Fire safety measures are also improved, with 50 fire stations ready to respond if needed. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sent his best wishes to everyone, emphasizing the festival's role in promoting community welfare and unity.
