TAMIL NADU: In a tragic and rare accident, a 29-year-old man lost his life after a live fish he caught strangled him at Keelavalam Lake in Madurantakam, Chengalpattu district.

The deceased, Manikandan, was a daily wage worker and a skilled fisherman and used to visit the lake quite often.

It is reported that Manikandan was fishing by himself when he caught two fish. Trying to carry both back to shore, he was holding one fish in his hand and had the other in his mouth. The fish, fighting for air, got stuck deep in his throat, blocking his airway.

Realizing he was unable to breathe, Manikandan came out of the water and ran to the nearby village of Araiyappakkam for help. Sadly, he collapsed before help could reach him. Locals tried to remove the fish but were prevented by its spiny, sharp protrusions.

Emergency personnel brought Manikandan to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead when he arrived. An autopsy is being conducted to identify the exact cause of death.

The police have filed a case under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and are investigating the incident. The community is shocked, grieving the untimely and tragic loss of a well-known face renowned for his fishing skills.
