Manipur, Meghalaya & Tripura celebrates Statehood Day

Guwahati: The states of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura have celebrated the statehood day on 21st January as the three states became full-fledged states under the North Eastern Region (Reorganisation) Act, 1971 on this particular day.

Following the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, the Indian government reorganized the North East region to ensure effective control of the international borders, three new states came into existence on 21 January 1972- Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.

President of India Ram Nath Kovind also twitted wishing the people of the three Northeastern states on the occasion of statehood day. The President twitted as 'Greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura on statehood day. My best wishes to these states for a bright and prosperous future.'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished the people of the three states on the statehood day in the twitter. He twits as 'Greetings to my sisters and brothers of Meghalaya on their statehood day. I will always cherish the affection of the people of Meghalaya. The state's natural beauty is enchanting. I pray for good health and well-being of the people of Meghalaya.'

The Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma also wished the people of the state and he twitted, "On the occasion of the 47th Statehood let us rededicate ourselves to the values with which our beloved State was formed and reaffirm our commitment to work for the people. On this happy day, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Meghalaya.'

Conrad Sangma also wished the people of Manipur and wished that Manipur might continue to scale new heights of growth in the times to come.

On the other hand, Chief Minister of Manipur and Tripura N Biren Singh and Biplap Kumar Deb respectively also wished the people of their respective states on the occasion of statehood day in twitter.

Tripura Chief Minister twitted, 'Greetings to my beloved brothers and sisters on the occasion of statehood day of Tripura. Let us reaffirm our commitment to work for comprehensive development of our state. With blessings of Ma Tripureswari we shall attain our vision of transforming Tripura into a model state.'
