Pak PM Imran Khan flaunting friendship with PM Modi: Digvijay Singh

Guwahati: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh raised a question as to how the United Nation's designation of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar would be held when the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is flaunting his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

JeM chief Masood Azhar has been listed as a global terrorist on Wednesday which is a big diplomatic win for India which had blocked moves to blacklist Masood Azhar four times and finally dropped its objections saying it that it has found no objection after a careful study of revised materials.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh said that how will listing Azhar as global terrorist help when the Pakistan Prime Minister is flaunting his friendship with Narendra Modi. He said, "I would say Dawood Ibrahim, Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed should be immediately handed over to India."

However, the Congress had welcomed Azhar's blacklisting and said that the government should push for the announcement of a bounty on his head as was done by the UPA government against Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.

It has further been claimed by the party that the UN Security Council's decision was only the first step and that Pakistan must be forced to dismantle the entire terror infrastructure operating from its soil.

It was Azhar led terrorist group of Pakistan which was behind the Pulwama terror attack on February 14 where more than 40 CRPF jawans have been martyred.

It was in the last month that Imran Khan said that he sees a better chance of peace talks with India if BJP wins the national election for the second term.

The UN Sanctions Committee on the ISIS and Al-Qaeda on Wednesday announced the designation of Azhar over its ties to Al-Qaeda.

India has welcomed the move saying that “it is a step in the right direction”. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said: “The action against Azhar is in accordance with India’s position and in line with the information shared with members of the Sanctions Committee.”
