NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a significant two-day visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, marking a historic moment as it is the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Jeddah in four decades.

This trip is Modi's third to the Gulf nation, while previous Indian prime ministers collectively visited Saudi Arabia only three times over the past seventy years.

Upon his arrival in Jeddah on Tuesday afternoon, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also serves as the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. The Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Suhel Ajaz Khan, emphasized the importance of Jeddah as a key city for enhancing India-Saudi Arabia connectivity.

On this visit, India and Saudi Arabia will be signing six agreements in various fields like space, energy, health, science and technology, culture, and advanced technology. These agreements are expected to facilitate greater cooperation between the two nations in major areas.

In addition, PM Modi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will be co-chairing the second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council signed last time by Modi during his visit in 2019 to boost bilateral cooperation. The meeting will further enhance the partnership between India and Saudi Arabia on the principles of mutual interests and collaborative efforts in various sectors.
