NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's PRAGATI platform has been instrumental in accelerating more than 340 large infrastructure projects worth over Rs. 17.05 lakh crore ($205 billion), according to a recent Oxford University study. In industries like rail, road, power, and aviation, PRAGATI has played a significant role in addressing long-standing delays since its founding nine years ago.
The study emphasizes that PM Modi’s active participation in reviewing these projects has played a crucial role in their success, driving accountability and streamlining decision-making. With PRAGATI, stalled projects, some of which had been pending for over two decades, have seen rapid progress.
PM Modi boasted about PRAGATI's accomplishments on social media, describing it as a fusion of governance and technology. The study, which was co-authored by Soumitra Dutta and Mukul Pandya from the University of Oxford, mentions a number of well-known projects that accelerated following PRAGATI's involvement, such as the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the Bogibeel Rail and Road Bridge, and the Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link.
Other noteworthy projects that have benefited from PRAGATI's oversight include the North Karanpura Thermal Power Plant, the Haridaspur-Paradeep Rail Link, and the Bengaluru Metro Rail. PRAGATI has removed major obstacles to guarantee these projects are completed on time.
The achievement of PRAGATI is viewed as a model for utilizing technology to effectively govern and accelerate the nation's infrastructure development.
