Prime Minister Narendra Modi Releases New Series of Coins for Visually Impaired

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a new series of visually impaired friendly circulation coins today in New Delhi. The new coins released are denominations of Re. 1, Rs 2, Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs. 20

The Prime Minister released the coins at a function at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and visually impaired children were invited during the launching program. The Prime Minister expressed happiness in hosting them and thanked them for giving him an opportunity to interact with them.

Releasing the coins, the Prime Minister said that the new circulation coins with various differentiating features will help the visually impaired people. He also said that the Union Government is guided by the vision of reaching the last mile and the last person and said that the new coins have been released keeping in mind the vision of reaching the last mile and the last person.

He further stated that the new series of coins will facilitate the visually impaired and will instil them with confidence.

During the release programme, the PM also mentioned about the various initiatives taken by the Union Government for the welfare of the Divyang community and said that there is a sensitivity with the union government to make every initiative Divyang friendly.

Modi thanked the National Institute of Design who have designed the coins, Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited and the Ministry of Finance for the introduction of new coins.

The visually impaired children also thanked the Prime Minister for introducing the coins as it will help them in their daily routines.

The coins are characterized by the increasing size and weight from lower to higher denominations and the newly included coin of Rs. 20 will be a 12 sided coin with no serrations and the other coins will be of round shape and the series of coins are characterized by the increasing size and weight from lower to higher denominations and the exact date of issuance of new series coins is yet to be announced.

Modi further stated that all the new series of coins will be issued for circulation only through the Reserve Bank in terms of the RBI Act.
