PUBG Mobile game launch delayed in India, may not launch until 2021

New Delhi: PUBG Mobile game fans and gamers in India will have to wait for the festive season to pass for the relaunch of the game in March next year.

This means no snowballs, no Christmas themed goodies and no matching outfits even on Valentine's Day February next year for those eagerly waiting for the PUBG game to return back in India.

PUBG mobile app officials have reportedly been vying to arrange a meeting with the officials at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) over the past one month but to no avail.

The mobile game was banned across the country in September amid the second tranche of 'Chinese' mobile apps accused of threatening India's sovereignty and national security by sharing data across borders.

Ever since the announcement, PUBG corporation had taken the rights away of PUBG Mobile from the Chinese technology giant, Tencent.

The parent company, Krafton, had established PUBG Mobile as an independent company in India and even signed up with Microsoft Azure to host the game and even had released a teaser of the game on its official website.

PUBG was likely to relaunch on November 14, however, a month later, PUBG Mobile has not been reinstated onto the shelves of Google Play Store or the App Store in India.

In September, as many as 118 Chinese mobile apps were banned by the government of India and Chinese developer Tencent was prohibited from distributing the game in India. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had denied permission of the launch of PUBG Mobile in India after the organisation had gone through changes in several corporate and technical layers in the company.

With the government being against aby such apps stating, "are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order," the relaunch seems to be a far-fetched dream at this point.

The only hope is that Tencent makes enough changes in their profile to convince the Indian government to allow distribution.
