Rahul Gandhi asks people of Wayanad to consider him as their son

Guwahati: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that he wanted to send out a message by contesting from the South while addressing his first poll rally at Wayanad in Kerala.

Addressing the rally, Rahul Gandhi said that Wayanad came first to his mind when he decided to contest from the second seat in Southern India apart from Amethi adding that he wanted to send a message that the South is as important as rest of the country. He said to the people, "Your voice is as strong as others."

Jabbing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi said that the PM was in Wayanad to understand what's inside to people's hearts and not talk about his 'Mann ki Baat.' Gandhi praised Kerala for its diversity and accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of trying to impose a single agenda in the country.

He further said that Kerala was a perfect example of diversity where various communities live in harmony adding that people of Kerala know how to respect others.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi also told the public that he will always be with them through their problems and asked the people to consider him as their son and best friend.

Before starting the rally, Gandhi offered prayers at Thirunelli temple and paid homage to his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi whose ashes were immersed Papanasini River.

The Lok Sabha polls in Kerala is scheduled to be held on April 23, the third phase of an election. Kerala has 20 constituencies which is witnessing a direct fight between the ruling CPI (M)-led LDF and the Congress-headed UDF in most seats. The BJP-led NDA is also a strong contender in a seat such as Thiruvananthapuram, Pathnamthitta and Thrissur constituencies.
