New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio has achieved another feat as it now provides 5G service at the Siachen Glacier, which is known as the highest battlefield in the world.
This makes Reliance Jio the first telecom operator in the country to do so by leveraging its indigenous full stack 5G technology with the help of plug-and-play pre-configured equipment at a forward post.
This information was shared by the Fire and Fury Corps in a post on X which said, "5G Connectivity at the Highest Battlefield of the World...Fire and Fury Corps in collaboration with Jio Telecom successfully installed the first ever 5G Mobile Tower on the Siachen Glacier. The indomitable feat is dedicated to out brave soldiers who are deployed in challenging conditions. Fire and Fury Signallers and Siachen Warriors overcame harsh terrain and extreme temperatures below -40°C to install the 5G BTS at North Glacier."
A spokesperson of the company revealed that such a milestone could be achieved only with the assistance of Army signallers who were active participants in planning, organizing multiple training sessions and dealing with system pre-configuration and comprehensive testing.
The company spokesperson also acknowledged the efforts of the Indian Army who played a significant role in managing logistics, which also included air-lifting Jio's equipment to Siachen Glacier. Due this collaboration, connectivity at 16,00 feet in the Karakoram range, known for extreme conditions, was made possible.
