Tamil Nadu man arrested for posting objectionable images with temple sculptures

Guwahati: A man in Tamil Nadu posts objectionable pictures being clicked with sculptures of a temple and ends up being arrested by police. This is an incident of Tamil Nadu’s Trichy district in which the Tamil Nadu police has arrested a 28-year-old man for posting 'inappropriate and objectionable images' with sculptures of a temple. The temple is Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur which according to a complainant hurts the feelings of Hindus.

The person arrested by the police is Mujpur Rahman who uses to work as a part-time food delivery agent. Reportedly, the accused had posted obscene pictures of him kissing and touching sculptures of women at the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur district.

Rahman had gone for a visit to the temple with some of his friends and it was an incident of June 5. Rahman had gone to the neighbouring district from the district of Trichy where he was staying with his sister.

As stated by the Trichy Cantonment police to the media, “Rahman hails from Othakkadai area of Madurai. Currently, he is residing and working as a food delivery boy in Trichy. As he wanted to celebrate; he went to the nearby ancient town of Thanjavur Wednesday. There, he visited King Raja Raja Chola built Brihadeeswara Temple -better known as ‘the big temple’. In the temple, he took the controversial pictures with the women sculptures.”

The complainant who filed the complaint against the accused is M Rathinavel who hails from Trichy and is of the opinion that the pictures posted by the accused are against the religious feelings of Hindus.

After being arrested, the accused is booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and Section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
