KOLKATA: In a gruesome turn of events in Kolkata, West Bengal, the severed body of 35-year-old Sumita Ghosh of Jorhat, Assam, was discovered inside a trolley bag, raising serious suspicions regarding her death. Sumita had been missing for ten days, and it was only after police discovered her grim fate that her family was informed about her tragic demise.
Sunita had gone to Kolkata four months ago to see her relatives. Her disappearance led her relatives to report about it to the authorities, and a police investigation was initiated. The case became more complicated when two women, Falguni Ghosh and her mother, Aarti Ghosh, were apprehended for trying to dispose of a corpse in the Ganga river bank in north Kolkata's Kumartuli. Falguni is married to Sunita's nephew, making it a complicated family relationship.
The locals grew suspicious when they saw the women carrying a blue trolley bag along the riverbank. The women, when confronted, said that it had their pet dog inside, but refused to open it, which created more suspicions.
When police arrived, the bag was opened by force, and inside, they found 55-year-old Sumita Ghosh, Falguni's father-in-law's sister, and her body was covered in blood. Sumita had been staying with the Ghosh family since February 11 after a separation from her husband. The probe is still ongoing as the authorities investigate the case further.
