Two Militants Killed In Encounter at Pulwama

Guwahati: Two militants were killed in an encounter in Pulwama district of South Kashmir. The encounter took place at Panzgam village in Awantipora between the militants and a joint team of security forces in the wee hours of Saturday.

The encounter took place between the militants and CRPF, 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SOG) in Panzgam at around 2.10 am.

The bodies of two militants have been recovered from the area while it has been believed that another militant is still trapped. According to sources, one of the militants killed in the encounter has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar of the Hizbul Mujahideen group.

Moreover, another encounter took place at Dehruna village of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district where a joint team of the army including 19 RR and SOG cordoned off the Dehruna area of Ananthnag after it has been informed about the presence of militants in the area. Sources said that hiding militants opened fire leading to an encounter after the joint team intensified search operation.

As per latest reports, the encounter was still on and two to three militants are believedto be trapped. Sources further informed that internet services had been snapped in both Awantipora in Pulwama district and Dehruna in South Kashmir.

On Thursday, three terrorists were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Pulwama district where one army jawan and a civilian were also lost in the operation. The gunfight on Thursday started in the Dolipora village in the early morning after security forces received a tip-off.

The police on Thursday issued an official statement after the encounter that the terrorist killed in the operation were affiliated with prescribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). The terrorists have been identified as Naseer Pandith, Umar Mir and one Pakistani national Khalid. It has also been reported that a cache of arms and ammunition has also been recovered.
