Two Workers Injured in Chhattisgarh Smelting Plant Accident; Several Feared Trapped

MUNGELI: Two workers were injured and several others are feared trapped following the collapse of a silo at a smelting plant in Mungeli district, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday, according to police reports.

The incident took place in the afternoon at the plant situated in the Saragaon area of the district, as confirmed by Mungeli Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel.

According to preliminary reports, the silo, an iron structure used for storing bulk materials, collapsed, trapping several workers who were at the site, he added.

Upon receiving the alert, the police arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation, the official stated. So far, two injured workers have been rescued and taken to a hospital in Bilaspur, he added.

The official further mentioned that many more workers are believed to be trapped under the collapsed structure, and efforts are underway to rescue them.

Meanwhile, nine laborers were trapped inside a flooded coal mine in Assam's Dima Hasao district on Monday due to a sudden water surge.

The incident took place at the Assam Coal Quarry in the 3 Kilo area of Umrangso. Preliminary reports indicated that around 15 workers were inside the mine, though the exact number was yet to be officially confirmed.

According to a post shared by the Chief Minister, the trapped workers were identified as Ganga Bahadur Shreth, Hussain Ali, Jakir Hussain, Sarpa Barman, Mustafa Seikh, Khushi Mohan Rai, Sanjit Sarkar, Lijan Magar, and Sarat Goyary.

Under the supervision of Assam’s Mines and Minerals Minister, Kaushik Rai, rescue operations were commenced at the Assam Coal Quarry in 3 Kilo, Umrangso, Dima Hasao, following reports of a mishap. Authorities were working tirelessly to address the situation.
