
NEW DELHI: Pabitra Margherita, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, met with the Indian community in Malaysia, emphasizing their vital role in enhancing India-Malaysia relations on Saturday. Margherita acknowledged the significant contributions of the Assamese and Manipuri diaspora, which resonate with his roots in Assam.
In a post on X, Margherita shared his delight at meeting the diverse Indian community, saying, “Their contributions to strengthening India-Malaysia ties are noteworthy. Always a pleasure to connect with our extended family abroad.”
During his visit, Margherita engaged in discussions with YB Kulasegaran Murugeson, the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) in Kuala Lumpur. The negotiations focused on building cooperation in legal and institutional reforms between the two countries.
The Minister also met with key personalities of Malaysia's business elite, including representatives of the Consortium of Indian Industries in Malaysia (CIIM) and the Malaysia-India Business Council (MIBC). These sessions highlighted the enhanced economic and business ties between India and Malaysia.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that Margherita is heading a delegation to attend the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair on April 18-19 in Kuala Lumpur. It is part of the ASEAN-India Tourism Professionals Exchange Programme 2025, which aims to promote tourism cooperation.
