
NEW DELHI: V Narayanan is set to take charge on January 14 as the new Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Secretary of the Department of Space.
According to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, V Narayanan has been appointed to these positions for a tenure of two years, or until further notice.
Narayanan, at the present, is in charge as the director at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) of ISRO, located in Valiamala, Kerala. V Narayanan is a renowned scientist with close to 40 years of expertise in rocket and spacecraft propulsion.
V Narayanan joined ISRO in 1984 and served in various responsibilities before he was appointed as the Director of LPSC. In the initial phase of his career, he worked in the Solid Propulsion division, contributing to the development of sounding rockets, the Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV), and the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).

He further contributed to the process planning, process control, and realization of ablative nozzle systems, composite motor cases, and composite igniter cases. Narayanan currently serves as the director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), a key center of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquartered in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, with an additional unit in Bengaluru.
