MALIGAON: Rail traffic has been severely disrupted following a blockade at Jorai Railway Station in the Alipurduar Division. The protest was organized by the Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association (GCPA), who began their agitation at approximately 6:45 AM. By 8:00 AM, over 5,000 protestors had gathered, obstructing all train lines at the station.

To ensure the situation remains under control, the Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F. Railway), in collaboration with state authorities, has deployed over 500 personnel, including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police. This large-scale deployment aims to prevent any escalation or untoward incidents during the blockade.

The blockade has forced the cancellation and diversion of numerous train services. To minimize inconvenience for passengers, N.F. Railway has arranged alternate travel options, including buses and Tata Sumo vehicles. Despite these efforts, significant disruptions have been reported.

Due to the blockade, several trains have been rerouted through the Fakiragram – Golakganj – New Cooch Behar (FKM – GKJ – NCB) corridor.

  • UP Trains (Diverted via NCB – GKJ – FKM):

    1. 15657 Brahmaputra Mail

    2. 15959 Kamrup Express

  • DN Trains (Diverted via FKM – GKJ – NCB):

    1. 20503 Rajdhani Express

    2. 22449 Guwahati – New Delhi Express

    3. 22411 Naharlagun – Anand Vihar Arunachal Express

    4. 22503 Vivek Express

    5. 13247 Kamakhya – Rajendra Nagar Capital Express

    6. 12423 Rajdhani Express

The following trains have been cancelled for journeys commencing on December 11, 2024:

  1. 22227/22228 Vande Bharat Express (New Jalpaiguri – Guwahati – New Jalpaiguri)

  2. 15704/15703 Express (Bongaigaon – New Jalpaiguri – Bongaigaon)

In response to the disruption, N.F. Railway has made arrangements for road transport to assist stranded passengers. While these measures aim to alleviate immediate concerns, passengers have expressed frustration over delays and the inconvenience caused.

N.F. Railway has issued an official apology, acknowledging the difficulties faced by passengers due to the protest. Efforts are underway to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and restore normal train operations.
