Why Shouldn't PM Modi be Credited if Indira Gandhi Could be?: Rajnath Singh

Guwahati: Union Minister Rajnath Singh asked the people of Gujarat as to why the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not get credit for the decision to carry out air strikes in Balakot which destroyed a Pakistan based terror camp of Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Addressing a rally in Gandhinagar at Gujarat, where Singh has accompanied party President Amit Shah during his filing of nomination papers spoke about the air strike comparing the Prime Minister's achievement to that of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi under whose leadership India defeated Pakistan in the 1971 war, the result of which was the fact that Bangladesh was created.

He asked the crowd in the rally, "Why shouldn't Modi get the credit for the air strike carried out at Balakot if Indira Gandhi could get the credit for dividing Pakistan?

Acknowledging Indira Gandhi's decision during the 1971 war, Singh said that it was the credit of the soldiers and armed forces personnel and with their courage it was possible to divide Pakistan into two parts. One remained Pakistan while the other country formed was Bangladesh.

Singh also reminded everyone of Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's praise for Indira Gandhi in the Parliament.

When Vajpayee could praise Indira Gandhi, why can't the opposition praise the Prime Minister Modi, asked Singh adding that the opposition Congress hadn't show any spirit for the PM when he gave the armed forces to go ahead to carry out the pre-emptive, non-military strike in Pakistan's Balakot.

While referring to the Pulwama terror attack, Singh said that when over 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives in a suicide bomb attack carried out by Pakistan based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad, Modiji gave a free hand to the forces to which Singh questioned to the crowd, "Why shouldn't Modi be credited for that?"

The rally in Gandhinagar was to show the strength of the BJP-led NDA as Amit Shah takes over from the party veteran LK Advani by filing his nomination papers for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Advani was the member of parliament from the same constituency for over 25 years.
