Actor Armaan Kohli Gets Bail From Bombay HC In August 2021 Drugs Case
MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court granted bail to Bollywood actor Armaan Kohli on Tuesday, more than a year after he was arrested in a case of alleged possession of 1.2 grams of cocaine.
The bail was granted to Kohli by a single bench of Justice N W Sambre on a surety of Rs One lakh and a slew of conditions on him were imposed.
Justice Sambre, while granting relief, said the 50-year-old actor, arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in August 2021, shall not indulge in similar activities and directed him to appear before the drug law enforcement agency once a month.
Justice Sambre also pointed out that if Kohli flouts any of the conditions imposed on him, the NCB can seek cancellation of his bail.
The court said it would pass a detailed order later.
The NCB had booked Kohli under various provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) for consumption, possession and financing of banned contraband.
The actor was taken into custody by the NCB following the arrest of a Nigerian national in the case.
Kohli has featured in several Bollywood films and also participated in a popular TV reality show. He has acted in films like 'Jaani Dushman', 'Kohra', 'Veer', 'Dushman Zamana' and 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo', among others.
In February this year, a special NDPS court in Mumbai denied interim bail to actor Armaan Kohli, who was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for alleged possession and consumption of drugs.
The actor's regular bail pleas have been rejected both by the special court and the Bombay High court on previous occasions.
Kohli had sought interim bail for 14 days to visit his ailing parents, later urging the court for grant him bail for two days.
However, the NCB said the accused has been arrested under a relevant section of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for possession of commercial quantity, which doesn't have provision for bail even on medical grounds, the NCB had argued, adding that the ground mentioned in the bail application doesn't inspire confidence.
After hearing the arguments of both sides, special judge AA Joglekar rejected the actor's bail plea.
Kohli was arrested in August last year and he has been booked under sections 27A (illicit trafficking) and 29 (conspiracy) of the NDPS Act, among others,
