Mumbai: Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has slammed YouTuber Paras Singh for making a racist remark against Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering and said that it is "time to educate ourselves and others about how wrong this is."

Varun, who was recently shooting in Arunachal Pradesh for director Amar Kaushik's upcoming movie 'Bhediya,' took to social media to express his views regarding the video where the YouTuber had said that MLA Ering looked like a 'Chinese'.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Varun said, "Having spent so much time in Arunachal Pradesh, it is time we educate ourselves and others about how wrong this is. AP (sic)."

The actor, in his Instagram post, shared a screenshot of the news story published by sentinelassam.com (the digital wing of The Sentinel newspaper, one of the leading English dailies of Assam and Northeast) on the whole incident about the YouTube video of Paras Singh and his arrest later.

He wrote this while sharing the director's post, "Being ignorant about your country and its region is stupidity in itself, but when that ignorance is expressed in an offensive manner, it becomes toxic. We all need to call out and condemn such ignorance in one voice and make all idiots understand that IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE ANYMORE (sic)."

Actor Rajkumar Rao reposted the same note on his Instagram Stories, saying that what happened is 'not acceptable.'

In Varun's social media, it is seen that he enjoyed shooting for Bhediya in Arunachal Pradesh. During his one-month stay in the state, he kept on sharing pictures and videos showing the natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh and its people. He also posted pictures and clips of babies whom he met during the shoot. He wrote, "Shooting a movie during the pandemic has been extremely challenging but working under the leadership of @amarkaushik has been one of the most exhilarating and satisfying experiences for me. Amar bhai chalo khelte hain. Was extremely lucky to shoot in a covid free town like ziro in #ARUNACHALPRADESH."

In one of his posts, he posted a picture of a baby and wrote, "Babies of Arunachal Pradesh. Thiagi Kambo is his name."
