NEW DELHI: Raijor Dal Chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi expressed his gratitude at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for resolving certain pending issues, including sanction of Rs 1 crore for the survey to declare Sivasagar as a State Heritage Site
Gogoi, after conclusion of the Autumn session of Assam Assembly, flew to New Delhi on Monday to discuss a bag of issues with the Assam CM, anticipating his arrival in the national capital on Wednesday after concluding his twin programs in Tezpur and Gohpur on Tuesday.
The Assam CM arrived in the national capital late on Tuesday and spent the night at Assam House. The Raijor Dal Chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi met with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma at the conference hall of Assam House on Wednesday.
The two were engaged in an hour-long discussion where they discussed a plethora of issues ranging from the medium of education in Assam to Sivasagar's development prospects.
Gogoi said in a statement, "We talked about the much-debated topic in Assam which is the issue of medium of education and the chief minister answered all my queries and also put forward his own understanding on the matter and that it is not as simple as it seems in a multi-lingual Assam, to impose a certain medium of education and that we have to respect all the communities that are living in our state. Some of these communities are not well versed in Assamese which if imposed will be harsh on them"
The Raijor Dal chief was accompanied by former Mangaldai MP Ramen Deka during the discussions.
The Sivasagar MLA further said, "The honorable CM today approved several long-pending matters related to the development of Sivasagar. He approved the sanction of Rs 1 crore for the survey to declare Sivasagar as a State Heritage Site. The amount will be disbursed in a few days."
Last year The Cultural Affairs Ministry of India made a list of seven towns in India that are known for their cultural and historical importance and Sivasagar got a place on that list. The Indian government also assured financial help to those seven towns for their overall development.
