Amritpal Singh’s Wife Held At Amritsar Airport While Trying To Flee To London

AMRITSAR: Absconding Khalistani separatist leader Amritpal Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur was held for questioning at the Amritsar airport at the time when she was trying to flee to London on Thursday.

She was apprehended before she could board the scheduled flight to London at 1:30 PM.

Kirandeep is now being questioned by customs officials, sources said.

Amritpal’s wife Kirandeep Kaur was not allowed to fly out as she is required for investigation purposes here in India. Reportedly, Immigration authorities prevented her from boarding the flight.

Amritpal’s wife was prevented from flying to London as there is already a circular which says that close aides and relatives of Amritpal cannot leave the country.

Kirandeep is known to be a citizen of the United Kingdom and is a UK passport holder. Moreover, she does not have any case filed against her in Punjab or elsewhere in the country, according to Punjab Police sources.

There is no concrete evidence regarding Amritpal's wife Kirandeep Kaur being an active member of Babbar Khalsa International while staying in the UK. Further, no FIR is filed by Punjab police or any central agency against that contention.

Kirandeep Kaur was detained for questioning under the same legal process applicable to the family and acquaintances of the absconding accused.

In March this year, she was questioned in connection with alleged foreign funding for the activities of Amritpal Singh, a leader of Waris Punjab De.

Media reports suggest that Amritpal Singh married Kirandeep Kaur, an NRI from the UK, in February this year.

After her marriage to Amritpal, Kirandeep moved to Punjab and now resides in Amritpal's ancestral village, Jallupur Kheda. Kirandeep's family roots are said to be in Jalandhar.

Amritpal took over as the head of Waris Punjab De, the outfit formed by actor-activist Deep Sidhu, a few months before his marriage with Kirandeep

Meanwhile, the manhunt to nab the fugitive Amritpal Singh continues even after almost a month since he absconded, in an almost ‘filmi’ style. The Khalistani leader has reportedly switched cars, frequently changed his clothes and turban, and even took a motorcycle to escape.
