Apple demand soars, farmers in Himachal Pradesh finds a reason to cheer

Good news for the Apple farmers in Himachal Pradesh as the prices and demands for the fruit are soaring high. The farmers have, all of a sudden, started earning good profit from the selling of both new and traditional varieties of apples as the demand for the valley grown apples has increased.

The current prices of the apple are ranging between Rs 2500 to 4000 for a 25 kilograms box of apples and thus, the farmers are also earning well from their apple productions. Himachal Pradesh is known for growing different varieties of apples and threes include Spur, Scarlet 2, Red Chief and Royal Delicious apples. The variety, taste and colour of these apples are of such good quality that has been able to beat the international varieties of apple.

An apple farmer of the valley said, "The sale of apples is really good this year. We are very happy as the apples are getting good prices. The Royal Base is selling at around Rs 4000, the Red Golden Apple is selling at around Rs 1500. The apples that are grown here are better than those coming from the outside or those that are imported. The quality is also good."

The Dhalli apple market, famous for its apple varieties in the country, has shown an abundance in wide varieties of apples where 65000 to 75000 boxes of apples are being brought by Shimla farmers. The reason the local apple farmers have been able to capture a good market for their fruits is that they have taken it as a target to beat the quality of the imported apples. They have adopted advanced farming techniques in order to produce good quality apples and these techniques are mostly organic methods for which the quality and production both are good this year.

The quality of the apple is proven to be good and this has been guaranteed by the apple traders as well. One of the apple traders from Gujarat adds that he has been getting the best apple for the past five years.
