Assam women beats men in alcohol consumption: Health and Family Welfare Statistics, 2019-20

Guwahati: The Health and Family Welfare Statistics (2019-2020) revealed that Assam stands first in the list of women consuming alcohol with 26.3 per cent. Chandigarh and Lakshadweep are the lowest on the list with zero per cent alcohol consumption by women.

Women from Nagaland are found to be in the second-lowest alcohol consumers along with Goa, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh, with a percentage of 0.1%, between the age of 15-54 years. Ironically, out of 0.1 % of women consumers of alcohol, 65.5% of women consume alcohol about once a week in Nagaland.

As per reports, men from Assam consume the highest percentage of alcohol with 59.4% from the age 15-54 years. Whereas, Arunachal Pradesh has the highest with 59.9% of men aged 15-49 who consume alcohol. Men from Goa has the highest percentage with 59.3%, who consume alcohol about once a week.

In the country, West Bengal has the highest percentage of women tobacco users with 59.2% and men with 80.4%.
