Delhiites May Soon Have Home Delivery Of Liquor, Here's How

New Delhi: A 17-page cabinet note on the home delivery of liquor has been approved by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and a group of ministers.

Home delivery of liquor in Delhi will soon turn into a reality as a group of ministers of the cabinet has given their consent to it. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and a group of ministers have given their nod to a 17-page cabinet note on liquors' home delivery.

As per reports, empanelled intermediaries will carry out the home delivery of liquor and they will collect the bottles from retail vendors and then deliver them to addresses in various localities.

The empanelled agencies must issue requisite licenses and permissions in order to do home deliveries.

The group of ministers has fought for home delivery of only approved liquor so as to prevent people from drinking spurious alcohol that often leads to hooch tragedies.

Moreover, the excise department will frame other rules that are in provisions of the Delhi Excise Act after the cabinet approves the proposal. The rules will include not delivering liquor to underage individuals.

Meanwhile, the Delhi cabinet assigned a group of ministers last year to bring about reforms in excise policies and this group was led by the chairmanship of Manish Sisodia.

The ministerial group has also suggested that no restrictions on the rate of discounts on liquor should be in place.

A Delhi government official said that the mechanism of home delivery will be thoroughly monitored by them and they will also issue necessary orders as and when required.

Earlier, home delivery of liquor was rolled out in West Bengal, Odisha, and Maharashtra so as to ensure an alternative route to maintain supplies amid shop shutdowns during the Covid pandemic.
