Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Granted 1-Month Parole

Guwahati: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a 20-year jail term, on Friday granted month-long parole.

"Singh has been granted one-month parole and he came out of prison on Friday," PTI quoted a senior Rohtak jail official.

In February this year, he got a furlough of 21 days. However, during this period, he wasn't allowed to visit anyone except for family members. He was also given Z-Plus security cover during his 21-day release.

According to reports, Rahim, who is serving a life sentence in the rape and murder case, had sought parole for one month. After getting parole, his new home will be the ashram of Barnawa in Baghpat. Following this, the government had sought a report from the Baghpat administration.

Later, while replying to the government, the district administration in its report expressed no objection to his stay in Barnawa.

It stated that there was no criminal case registered against Gurmeet Ram Rahim in Baghpat. Therefore, after getting parole, the district administration has no objection to Ram Rahim coming to the Barnawa ashram and staying here.

The Dera chief is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples at his ashram in Sirsa in Haryana. In 2017, he was convicted by a special CBI court in Panchkula and was lodged in Rohtak's Sunaria jail.
