FIR Filed Against Mark Zuckerberg For Facebook Post Against Akhilesh Yadav

GUWAHATI: A case has been registered in Thatia police station, Uttar Pradesh against the founder and CEO of social media platform Facebook based on a controversial post against Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav which contains defamatory comments against him.

A resident from Sarahati village of Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh named Amit Kumar has registered an FIR against Mark Zuckerberg and 49 others for the Facebook post carrying defamatory comments against Akhilesh Yadav, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Mark Zuckerberg has nothing to do with the case but his name was included in the case filed only for being the founder of Facebook and his platform was used by users to post offensive and slanderous comments against the politician Yadav.

In his application presented before the court, Kumar alleged that some of the Facebook users tried to harm the image of Samajwadi Party chief, Akhilesh Yadav through a post on the Facebook page named 'Bua Babua.'

Earlier on 25 May 2021 Kumar had sent an application to the SP (Superintendent of Police) but it remained unnoticed and therefore he went straight to court and demanded a case to be filed against the administrator of the Facebook page 'Bua Babua and also against the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg.

On Monday 29 November Dharamveer Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate of a court in Kannauj district of Uttar Pardesh ordered the police to lodge an FIR on the basis of the instruction provided by Amit Kumar.

The term 'Bua Babua' was first invented at the time when two political rivals Akhilesh Yadav and Chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party Mayawati formed an alliance in the parliamentary election of 2019.

A senior police official said that throughout the investigation of the case Mark Zuckerberg's name was removed meanwhile a thorough investigation has been carried out against the admin of the Facebook page 'Bua Babu.'
