Four-Storey Building Collapses In North Delhi; 2 Children Killed

NEW DELHI: At least two children died after a four-storey building collapsed in Malkaganj near Sabzi Mundi in North Delhi on Monday morning. The two kids, both brothers, were rescued from under debris after the building collapsed but they were declared brought dead after being taken at a hospital. Another person was rescued from under the debris and is under treatment at the hospital. Many other people are feared to have been trapped inside the debris because of the building collapse.

As per reports, the incident took place between 11:30-11:50am when a building collapsed in Malkaganj area of Delhi because of which at least two children were killed. A car which was parked nearby was damaged as debris from the building fell on it. The fire control room was informed about 11:50am after which five fire tenders and rescue teams reached the spot. Two more fire tenders were sent later.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said he was monitoring the situation closely. He also shared about the incident on social media. N. S. Bundela, Joint CP, Central Range, Delhi said teams of local police, MCD, NDRF were present for rescue operations. They need some time to assess the number of people stuck under debris, Bundela said.

In July this year, at least three people died on the spot and many others were injured after a building collapsed in Govandi area of Mumbai. As per reports, heavy rainfall was the reason for which the two-storey building had collapsed. Many people have died in rain-related incidents in Mumbai this year.
