Kendrapada (Odisha): A girl from Odisha gathered the strength and walked 10 KM to the District Magistrate's office in Kendrapda, Odisha to file a complaint against her father. The class 6 student claimed that her father has allegedly been taking the benefits of her midday meal.

Under the midday meal scheme, the government has been depositing Rs 8 in the bank account of the students or their parents, if the student does not have an account. The government has also been providing 150 gram of rice daily under this scheme.

However, in the case of this girl, even after her having a bank account, she alleged that all the benefits under this scheme are being enjoyed by her father. He also collects the rice in the name of his daughter.

After her mother died two years ago, her father remarried. She has been living with her uncle since 2019 as she was shunted out of her home.

When the District Collector of Kendrapada, Odisha, Samarth Verma received the complaint against the father, he asked his officials to directly transfer the benefits to the account of the girl. He has also asked his officials to ensure that she receives back everything that her father has claimed in her name so far.

The district education officer of Kendrapada, Sanjib Singh said that they will deposit the money that the girl deserves in her bank account. They will further try to recover the money received by the father in her name. The authorities have also instructed the headmaster of the school to give her quota of rice only to her.
