Haryana Government Suspends Internet and Imposes Section 144 in Nuh District
CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has ordered the suspension of mobile Internet services in Nuh district, effective from 10:00 AM on September 15 to 11:59 PM on September 16. Simultaneously, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been enforced throughout the district. Additionally, residents have been urged to conduct Friday prayers within their homes.
The decision by the government comes in the wake of the arrest of Congress MLA Mamman Khan, who is implicated in the events surrounding the violence that occurred on July 31 in Nuh. However, the official order issued by the government does not explicitly mention Khan's arrest as the reason for these measures.
The order, issued by the Home Department's Additional Chief Secretary, TVSN Prasad, states, "This order is issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of district Nuh in the state of Haryana and shall be in force with effect from September 15 (10:00 AM) to September 16 (11:59 PM)."
Prasad clarified that the decision was made in response to a letter from the Nuh deputy commissioner, expressing concerns about potential tension, protests, damage to public and private property, and disruptions to peace and tranquility in the district.
The Additional Chief Secretary emphasized that there is a clear risk of disruption to essential public services, destruction of property, and a breakdown of law and order in Nuh due to the misuse of Internet services. He raised concerns about the dissemination of inflammatory content and false rumors via social media platforms, messaging services, SMS, and dongle services.
The move to suspend mobile Internet services and impose Section 144 CrPC is a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining law and order in Nuh, where tensions have been escalating since the July 31 violence.
