New Delhi: On Monday, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced that a scheme has been created by the government for 'Good Samartians'.

According to this scheme, a person will be rewarded if he/she steps forward to save the lives of victims of road accidents by taking them to a hospital.

If the person manages to take the victim within the 'golden hour' after the accident, he/she will be rewarded an amount of Rs. 5000 by the ministry.

The 'golden hour' has been defined by the ministry as "the first one hour period, following a traumatic injury during which there is a high possibility of preventing death by providing prompt medical care."

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that the objective of this scheme is "to motivate people to help the road accident victims in emergency situations."

Saving the life of an injured victim is a noble and humanitarian act. However, many people refrain from doing the good deed because of the legal procedures and many other problems attached to it.

However, the police have many times put emphasis on the fact that a person will not be prosecuted for lending a helping hand to the injured victims of road accidents.
