International Flights Suspended Till February 28 Says DGCA

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in a circular informed that the suspension of planned international passenger flights has been extended till February 28.

Since March 23, 2020, scheduled foreign passenger flights have been banned in India. However, under air bubble agreements made with them, unique passenger flights have been running between India and roughly 40 nations starting July 2020.

"The competent authority has decided to extend the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to/from India until 2359 hrs IST of February 28, 2022," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced in a circular issued on Wednesday.

This prohibition does not apply to international all-cargo operations or flights that have been specially cleared by the DGCA, according to the document. It was mentioned that fights held in an air bubble setup would be unaffected.

Following the mounting worries about the COVID-19 version of Omicron, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the Civil Aviation Ministry and the DGCA to examine their decision.

Last year, The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) decided on December 1 not to resume scheduled international flights from December 15, less than a week after declaring that they would be resumed, due to mounting worries about the coronavirus variant Omicron. "The competent authority has decided to extend the suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to and from India until 2359 hours of January 31, 2022," the regulator said in a circular issued on December 9, 2021.
