Karnataka: Local Youth Finds Over 20 Monkeys Poisoned And Dumped In Gunny Bags In Kolar

Kolar: A local youth in Karnataka's Kolar found over 20 monkeys poisoned and dumped near the highway.

Some of the half-dead monkeys were gasping for breath and were unable to move when the local youth opened the gunny bags.

The forest department has performed post mortem and is now checking CCTV footage to find evidence so that the culprits are caught and arrested.

This incident has taken place in Chowdanahalli village in Belur taluk. The monkeys have been reportedly poisoned and beaten up by the culprits who later put them in gunny bags and dumped them by the roadside near Chowdanahalli village.

After filing a PIL in the Karnataka High Court, the district administration, forest department and the animal welfare board were made respondents in this case.

In a similar incident that took place in July this year, about 30 monkeys were found dead while 20 others were found injured in a village in the district of Hassan.

At least 50 monkeys were also found dead in an incident that took place in the Mahbubabad district in Telangana last year. The dead bodies of the monkeys were reportedly poisoned and stuffed in gunny bags. The forest department later reported that the gunny bags were found on a hillock near Sanigapuram village.
