THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An extremely tragic incident occurred in Kerala's Kannur district, where a couple died in a car fire. The episode took place on 2nd of February, Thursday, when a pregnant lady along with her husband failed to move out of a burning car.

The cause of the fire is suspected due to short circuit. The deceased victims has been identified as Prijith and Reesha of age 35 and 26 respectively. The incident began when Reesha was suffering from a labour pain, and the couple approached towards a hospital.

As per the reports, along with the couple, four other people were also travelling in the car. However, the four seated in the backside of the Maruti S-Presso, managed to move out of the burning car on time. A child was also present amongst the four survivors.

As per sources, after the car generated smoke, Prajith immediately opened the rear doors and advised the other passengers to move out. A team of fire personnels rushed to the spot, unfortunately, couldn't save the pregnant couple.

The police officials informed that, people nearby couldn't help the victims as they feared car explosion. Passerby informed the police officials that, the couple failed to get out of the vehicle as they got entangled with their seat-belts.

Ajit Kumar, the Kannur police commissionerate, mentioned that, the survivors were immediately admitted in a nearby hospital, but fortunately, nobody was severely injured.

The actual cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, after consent by technical professionals. A case has been registered in the Kannur police department and an investigation has been launched.

Kerala began the year of 2023 on a tragic note, as nine people died in different road accidents on 1st of January, Sunday. While three persons died in Pathanamthitta, two each died in Alappuzha and Kozhikode.
