Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal tests COVID-19 positive

Leh: Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, the BJP MP who represents the Ladakh Constituency in the Lok Sabha, tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, September 14. After testing positive, the MP urged the people who had come in contact with him recently to get themselves tested for the COVID-19.

"I was tested positive for COVID. My health is fine but I'm being advised to quarantine. Those who were in contact with me from the last few days should self isolate and are advised to take the test at the earliest," Namgyal wrote in a tweet.

It is pertinent to mention here that Namgyal tested coronavirus positive on a day when he participated in a series of activities, including a 25-km cycling event led by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Rijiju was even received by by the Ladakh MP at the Leh Airport on Sunday.

Namgyal took part in the 'Fit India Cyclothon' led by Rijiju in Leh on Monday, an event that also saw the participation of local cycling associations and many other people of Ladakh.

Later, Namgyal also attended a function with Rijiju who laid the foundation stone of a synthetic track and AstroTurf for football in Open Stadium in Leh.

It needs mention here that at least 17 Lok Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs) and 9 Rajya Sabha MPs tested positive for COVID-19 on the first day of the Monsoon Session.

These MPs were tested at the Parliament House on September 13 and 14, ahead of the session as part of the mandatory Covid-19 guidelines.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Bharatiya Janata Party has a maximum number of 12 COVID affected Lok Sabha MPs and 2 from Rajya Sabha.
