Legendary Badminton Player Prakash Padukone Tests Positive for Covid-19

Prakash Padukone, badminton great, along with his wife and second daughter test positive for COVID-19. Currently undergoing treatment at Bangalore Hospital.

Bengaluru - Legendary Badminton player Prakash Padukone tests positive for COVID-19. Padukone, his wife, and his second daughter all tested positive for COVID-19, but the former shuttle needed to be hospitalized after a prolonged fever.

The former badminton player is recovering well and is likely to be discharged within a week, according to Vimal Kumar, badminton coach and Director of Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy. 

"Around 10 days back, Prakash, his wife (Ujjala) and second daughter (Anisha), developed symptoms and got themselves tested and the results came out to be positive," Vimal Kumar told the Press Trust of India.

"They got themselves isolated but after a week Prakash's fever didn't come down, so last Saturday, he was admitted to a hospital here in Bengaluru. He is okay now. All his parameters are fine, his wife and daughter are at home and he too will be hopefully discharged in 2-3 days," he added.

One of the best badminton players of all time, Padukone was a role model for Indian sportsmen during his playing days. He was the first Indian to win the All England Championship trophy. He was also the first Indian to be ranked world number one in 1980, after claiming several prestigious titles that year.

After retiring in 1991, Padukone was made chairman of The Badminton Association of India (BAO).

As of 8:30 PM, 4/5/21, 1,25,200 new COVID cases have been recorded in India, taking the total tally up to 2,04,00,000 cases in India. The COVID-related fatalities today were counted to 898 deaths, taking the total deaths in our country to 2,23,000 deaths. The active cases in India amount up to 34,52,000, and the numbers are going up by the minute. 

Meanwhile, in Assam, 4,500 new cases were recorded today, along with 41 deaths due to COVID-19. With the cases going up at this rate, it is absolutely vital that we stay home, and stay safe.
