The SOFI report provides estimates for the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) and moderate to severe food insecurity (PMSFI) at the global, regional, and national levels each year. Given their age, sex, and body mass, the PoU calculates the percentage of the population that typically does not consume even the minimum number of calories needed for a normal and active existence.
The PMSFI calculates the percentage of the population that experiences various degrees of food insecurity. These projections are based on surveys that gather data on people's perceptions of food access limitations.
