New Delhi: Data shows that more than three months since the mass vaccination programme's rollout, India seems to have barely scratched the surface.
The report India Today Data Intelligence Unit (DIU) stated that only 37 of the 726 districts (just 5 per cent) reviewed have administered at least one dose of vaccine to 20 per cent or more people. According to CoWIN app data, two of the best performing districts are Mahe in Puducherry and Jamnagar in Gujarat.
Data also shows that they have already covered nearly a third of the population in terms of at least one dose. The vaccine coverage has been less than 10 per cent in nearly 58 per cent of the districts and between 10 to 20 per cent in another 37 per cent of districts. Bijapur in Karnataka and South Salmara in Assam are among districts with the lowest vaccine coverage.
However, according to CoWIN data, many districts in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and the northeastern states have vaccinated less than 10 per cent of their population. On the other hand, most districts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala have injected over 10 per cent of the population. Read more
DIU has prepared India's district-wise vaccination coverage map with the help of CoWIN data. The vaccination data of at least the first doses as of May 3 is divided by the estimated population of respective districts.
