MS Dhoni begins Parachute Regiment training, followed by patrol and post duty in Kashmir

MS Dhoni, the former Indian cricket team skipper who is currently on rest for a time being, has decided to serve the nation by beginning his two-month training with Indian Army’s Parachute Regiment. A decision taken to join the army and live a rigidly disciplined life leaving behind all the comfort and luxuries of life is in itself a commendable step and the nation salutes the sportsperson for his indomitable spirit.

Dhoni, has, however, already joined the battalion on Wednesday at its headquarters in Bengaluru. Moreover, in addition to undergoing the training session, Dhoni is also heard to serve the Indian army in Kashmir. Sources say that he will be patrolling, guarding and will play post duty for about 15 days.

As the cricketer is not going to accompany his team for the West Indies series, this was a million-dollar question for his fans as to what will he be doing next. Now knowing about his decision to join the Indian Army and join his duty formally has added a tint of cheer and pride to his fans and followers. The cricketer, as scheduled, will join his duty in Kashmir on July 31. As confirmed by the Indian Army sources, Dhoni is to stay in Kashmir with the army till August 15.

The Indian Army statement said, “Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) MS Dhoni is proceeding to 106 Territorial Army Battalion (Para) for being with the Battalion from 31 Jul-15 Aug 2019.”

However, as informed by reliable sources, Dhoni’s plan to join the Indian Army and serve the nation was in pipeline for quite some time and this is not something that Dhoni decided all of a sudden. The sources further added that Dhoni’s love for the Indian Army is as evident and well-known to all as his love and passion for cricket. This plan of Dhoni joining the Army was in pipeline since long but had to be postponed due to his commitments towards cricket.

The source also added, “This will also help increase awareness among the youth about the armed forces and that is what Dhoni wants."
