New Delhi: AAP Announces Rajya Sabha Nominations with Notable Changes

NEW DELHI: Swati Maliwal to take over Sushil Gupta's place while Sanjay Singh and ND Gupta are re-nominated with committee approval. The unveiling of its strategy for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Delhi scheduled for January 19, 2024 is a significant development by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This comes as Sanjay Singh, Sushil Kumar Gupta, and Narain Dass Gupta's six-year term as members of Rajya Sabha draws to an end on January 27.

After their current term ends this month, the AAP Committee has chosen to re-nominate Sanjay Singh and Narain Dass Gupta for the Rajya Sabha. But there is a significant change as Swati Maliwal, who currently chairs Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), will replace Sushil Kumar Gupta.

Choosing Swati Maliwal as a contender for the Rajya Sabha position coincides with AAP's dedication to endorsing politicians who possess a robust history of social activism. During her time at the DCW, notable advocate for women's rights - Maliwal - has been instrumental in tackling problems associated with violence towards females.

Today, it is noteworthy that the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has allowed Sanjay Singh to file his nomination papers from prison. Despite facing charges related to a money laundering case connected with the alleged Delhi excise scandal, Singh plans to seek re-nomination while incarcerated and serving as an MP.

The Rajya Sabha candidacy of Swati Maliwal highlights the party's approach to combining seasoned politicians and committed activists. Prior to her appointment as DCW Chairperson, Maliwal provided counsel to the Delhi Chief Minister in addressing public complaints.
