Rahul Gandhi US Tour: Rahul’s “PM Will Even Explain to God” Comment Drew Backlash

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed the Indian diaspora in the US while on a six-day tour, taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP.

Rahul Gandhi claimed that PM Modi is "one such specimen" of the Indians who believe they are smarter than God while speaking to a crowd in San Francisco. Anurag Thakur, a Union Minister, responded angrily, claiming the Congressman "couldn't digest" the compliments and admiration the Prime Minister received on his most recent overseas trips.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, claimed on Wednesday that he had to start the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" because all methods of engaging the public in politics were "being controlled" and because "the entire India" joined him in the massive foot march.

Rahul Gandhi is in the US for ten days; San Francisco is his first stop. New York and Washington, DC, will be the following two. Rahul Gandhi, who was then an MP, was accused of denigrating Indian democracy on foreign land on his most recent international trip, which was to the UK.

The ruling party BJP responded angrily to his remarks. Anurag Thakur, a Union Minister, charged the Congress politician with disrespecting India while travelling abroad.

Rahul Gandhi attacks India when visiting other countries, which is unacceptable. He intends to mock Prime Minister Modi, but instead mocks India and questions its development. He is attempting to delegitimize India at a time when the world is embracing our rising prominence, according to Mr. Thakur.

BJP’s Amit Maviya wrote, “The Congress despite being in power for a long time did nothing for the Dalits. The venerable Babasaheb Ambedkar, who gave us the Constitution, was denied Bharat Ratna, till 1990, when a non-Congress Govt conferred the recognition on him, whereas Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi gave themselves the award while in office. Indira Gandhi denigrated Babu Jagjivan Ram, the tallest Dalit leader in the 1970s, because she considered him a competition.”

He further added, “It is only under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi that several steps have been taken to empower the Dalits and the Tribals. It is for the first time initiatives (from Jandhan to loans under Mudra, Stand Up India and more) have been taken to create a more inclusive and equitable India.”

Furthermore, in a lecture to the National Press Club on June 1-2, Rahul Gandhi will discuss issues like the future of Indian democracy, free speech, and sustainable and inclusive economic growth. In order to have debates and share ideas, he has also scheduled meetings with legislators and think institutes. Additionally, he will join prominent business figures, senators, and congressmen for a dinner sponsored by Indian-American businessman Frank Islam.
